Welcome to Brazil Class!

We are delighted to welcome you to our Year 3 and 4 class. Brazil Class is a happy, supportive and ambitious learning environment where every child is encouraged to grow in confidence, develop independence and achieve their very best.

Our class is taught by Mr D Timmins, supported by Miss V Emmins. Together, we work hard to create a classroom where children feel safe, valued and inspired to learn.

At the heart of everything we do is ‘The Griffin Way’. We believe that every child should feel safe, be kind and be ready to learn. We teach positive learning behaviours, practise them every day and celebrate children who demonstrate them. The Griffin Way is built around our Three Pocket Principles:

• Be Respectful – using kind words, showing good manners and looking after people and property.
• Be Responsible – making good choices, taking ownership of mistakes and caring for our learning environment.
• Be Ready to Learn – listening carefully, working hard and being in the right place at the right time.

Learning This Autumn Term

Geography: The United Kingdom – What Makes Regions of the UK Different?

This term, children will explore the different regions of the United Kingdom and discover what makes each area unique. They will learn about countries, cities, counties and regions, develop their map-reading skills using the eight compass points, and compare our local area with a contrasting region of the UK.

History: Location, Location, Location

In History, we will be learning about the history of Sutton Bridge and the surrounding area. Children will investigate important local people, landmarks and events that have helped shape our community over time. They will also learn how historians use primary and secondary sources and consider how reliable different sources of information can be.

Other Subjects

Alongside our Geography and History learning, children will also study:

• Art: Patterns in Nature
• Design and Technology: From Field to Fork
• Religious Education: Belonging
• Music: Samba
• French: Instruments
• PSHE: Being Me In My World

Reading

Reading is one of the most important ways children can support their learning. We ask that children read at home (at least 3 times a week) every day if possible, either independently or with an adult. Daily reading helps children improve their vocabulary, comprehension, fluency and confidence.

Children following the Read Write Inc. programme will bring home two RWI books and a reading-for-pleasure book.

Children who have completed Read Write Inc. will have an ability book and a challenge book. Reading books should be brought into school every day so that staff can monitor progress and support your child’s reading journey.

Homework

Homework is set every Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday.

Children will receive:

• An English task linked to grammar and punctuation learning.
• A Maths task focused on developing key number skills.

We also encourage all children to practise their multiplication facts using TT Rock Stars, helping them build fluency and confidence in Maths. Log in details will be found inside the front cover of their Reading Record.

If your child finds any aspect of their homework difficult, please encourage them to speak to us. We are always happy to help.

Physical Education

Our PE lessons take place on Monday and Friday.

Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their full outdoor PE kit, including appropriate footwear and their federation hoodie. Children with long hair should have it tied back, and all jewellery, including earrings and watches, should be removed before lessons.

Working Together

A strong partnership between home and school is key to helping every child succeed. As The Griffin Way reminds us, home and school are one team, and we greatly appreciate your support with reading, homework, attendance and positive learning habits.
